Was It Something I Said?

Start Again 03:36
I’ve been searching for a thread To pick up and move ahead But it all just looks like such a mess There’s way too much to repair And the whole thing’s up in the air It’s a total write-off more or less Some may say that it’s such a waste To forget the past like it’s been erased When so much great experience was gained But where would our nostalgia be Without selective memory? Sifting out the pleasure from the pain Start again Turn another page There’s a better chapter waiting to unfold Start again There’s nothing here to save All the things that really matter You know they will be coming anyway Way too many pieces at my feet That make the picture incomplete Full of holes that never could be filled It’s taken years for me to doubt That I could ever work it out But now I know it’s not the way I’ve been searching for a thread To pick up and move ahead But it all just looks like such a mess There’s way too much to repair And the whole thing’s up in the air It’s a total write-off more or less Start again Turn another page There’s a better chapter waiting to unfold Start again There’s nothing here to save All the things that really matter You know they will be coming anyway

Over Now 02:48
I, I don’t want to change your mind I don’t want to make this into something that you wouldn’t want to do And I, What if I’m misunderstood Or what if you don’t really think it’s worth the chance to follow this thing through It’s up in the air But look at me anchored to the ground I hadn’t a care Until you were there to say you’re out to get me The things you said The words I read Just keep repeating in my head But that was then I don’t know how But this is me You’re over now Lost, for once it seems I’m lost for words If only there was some great explanation for the way I’ve got it wrong But you You’re keeping it all to yourself So maybe there’s a cause for celebration That it made me write this song It’s up in the air But look at me anchored to the ground I hadn’t a care Until you were there to say you’re out to get me The things you said The words I read Just keep repeating in my head But that was then I don’t know how But this is me You’re over now
3.
So Easy 03:25
Tell me what’s bothering you about me And I’ll put your worries to rest The table will turn around And I’ve got a feeling That I’ll be the one to protest You threw all that shit And I got in the way But it seems I’m the one who’s to blame Has it never stopped raining down On your parade Since the day I appeared in the frame Cos it’s so easy for me Everything I want to touch turns to gold And anything I want to be I can be So tell me what’s bothering you about me And I’ll show you where you went wrong Cos nothing has turned out the way you imagine That’s just how it’s been all along Cos it’s so easy for me Everything I want to touch turns to gold And anything I want to be I can be Yeah it’s so easy for me Everything I want to touch turns to gold And anything I want to be I can be

One look That was all I needed I saw Everything I’d dreamed I thought It must be too good to be true But it turned out to be Two souls Searching for a reason One night It all was very clear We knew There was a magic in the air It was plain to see Every turning that I made Must have been heading just one way All those roads I thought were wrong Finally got me through To the one that would lead to you One look That was all I needed I saw Everything I’d dreamed I thought It must be too good to be true But it turned out to be

Solid Ground 04:37
I was feeling so much better But then I came in here You brought back things I’d never Thought about in years And you know For a while it hurt And you know For a while it felt like things Just couldn’t get much worse They strapped the cuff around me I felt the pressure rise When they told me the readings It came as no surprise And you know I put it down to you and you And you know I put it down to all the endless shit That we’ve been through But look at what I’ve found Someone to talk me down Before it all goes out the window The spikes upon my graph Well I just had to laugh Turn the other way around When I get back on solid ground They say that some things Are much better left unsaid It’s just a shame you had to Sow the seeds of doubt inside my head I'm feeling so much better It’s good to be alive One twenty over eighty Then into overdrive And you know I put it down to you and you And you know I’ve you to thank For showing me I’ve better things to do

This lonely heart Won’t let it be When the memory of your face Still burns a flame in me These sleepless eyes Still see a time When your treasured book of names Still had a space for mine If there’s truth in what they say Will destiny’s angel Bring you my way again Next time around I’m planning on making it last All the words I know that I should have said Will get through to you Next time around I’m gonna shoot straight for the heart Seems like it’s the last chance I’ve got To have you here with me It’s all the same From day to day The moments pass me by And colours fade to grey Pick up the phone Tell me you care Suggest a time and place You know that I’ll be there If there’s comfort in this life You’ll ease the pain That’s cutting m e like a knife Next time around I’m planning on making it last All the words I know that I should have said Will get through to you Next time around I’m gonna shoot straight for the heart Seems like it’s the last chance I’ve got To have you here with me

Jealous 03:22
I’m sure that you can't wait To hear how it’s all gone I’ll give it to you straight So you can pass it all along It’s not a pretty picture But it’s all in view You can really feel the heartache coming through The ship we waited for Just sank without a trace I’ll bet the captain saw And had a smile upon his face Then there’s that pot of gold Down at the rainbow’s end When the sun was out it never rained again Well it took a while to realise Just what it’s all about When you ask me how it’s going In the hope it won’t work out Now I can see it with my eyes closed And I can hear it from afar When the hands of fate they threaten To tear your jealous world apart Oh looks like he’s heading for a fall His backs against the wall and this time We can’t see that there’s a way out It’s in doubt That he’s coming back from this I’m sure that you can’t wait To hear how it’s all gone I’ll give it to you straight If you can pass it all along But this time it won’t be something That you’ll want to hear Cos it’s looking like the road ahead is clear

I must be crazy I must be insane A cold voice of reason Cried out through the rain As I faced the long journey home It must have been due to that lingering kiss Why the last bus tonight was the one that I missed And no better reason I have known For I can’t sleep And I won’t eat And your face is the only light I see Only love could do those things to me The heavens they opened The thunder it roared The whole world it seemed Was in total discord Like it all just wanted to let go But I couldn’t care what the weather might bring Affairs of the heart are a curious thing When they throw all caution to the wind No I can’t sleep And I won’t eat And your face is the only light I see Only love could do those things to me No I can’t sleep And I won’t eat And your face is the only light I see Only love could do those things Love could do those things Love could do those things to me
9.
So this is how it ends And now I must pretend I really give a damn at all You’ve made your final bed With all you’ve done and said And now your back’s against the wall So ill it was conceived The plan that you believed Would keep it all in place But now the weight has gone You put too much pressure on And it blew up in your face Now tell me what you’re gonna do Now you don’t have a say I can’t believe you really thought That it would stay that way No use asking me For my sympathy Now you’re all alone That’s blood out of a stone So this is how it ends There’s nothing that depends On any order you could give It’s written on your face You haven’t left a trace Of anything to bargain with Just take your final bow If you remember how To bend a little bit But don’t expect applause After all the pain you’ve caused Much more than you’d admit
10.
Asshole 03:24
There’s no polite way to say this No way to soften the blow And it’s not for your benefit In the hope that you’ll change There’s just something I want you to know It’s been simmering there for a long time But the temperature started to rise You’re the fuel to the fire I’ve a burning desire To be the reason for stars in your eyes So let’s cut to the chase Right to your face Spelling it out loud and clear Though you’re only standing a few feet away I want to make sure that you hear You’re an asshole an asshole Though far from alone You must be the biggest one I’ve ever known Asshole you asshole So sure of yourself You don’t give a shit about anyone else You look for the lost And keep your fingers crossed There’s no hope that they’re gonna be found And the ones flying high Not a day passes by You don’t look for a sign That it’s all gonna crash to the ground So there’s no polite way to say this No way to soften the blow And it’s not for your benefit In the hope that you’ll change There’s just something I want you to know Asshole you asshole Though far from alone You must be the biggest one I’ve ever known Asshole you asshole So sure of yourself You don’t give a shit about anyone else Asshole you asshole Though far from alone You must be the biggest one I’ve ever known Asshole you asshole So sure of yourself You don’t give a shit about anyone else

A warm summer’s evening The church bells would chime We stood around waiting for opening time Just five more minutes And we’ll drink our worries away The life we were given Is the one we have kept It’s a whole way of living You learn to accept Bring in some money Then do this all over again But oh Isn’t it strange How overnight changes occur And then you’re the stranger Visiting where you once were We used to stand gazing Out over the fields Now covered in concrete It looks so unreal Suppose I feel grateful That now I’m not part of the deal This was a dead-end street The day that we moved in Strange neighbours either side And either side again Seemed pretty normal then It was all I knew Some nights a crazy bitch Would put our windows through I made the grade that paved the way to something good But couldn’t wait to see the day I really understood Why those dreams they seemed so sure they’d realise Got no assistance from the dreamer to survive Coming down Coming round Coming to your senses Growing old Growing wise Whatever your defence is You can’t say You really wanted it this way This was a dead-end street But even then we tried Risking a life and limb To see what’s on the other side Coming down Coming round Coming to your senses Growing old Growing wise Whatever your pretence is You can’t say You really wanted it this way
