Something In Rennison's Pies

from Major 3rd by Chris Swinney

/

lyrics

I’ve got a pounding in my head
Monday morning’s what I dread
But I never seem to learn on Sunday night
Though I know I’ll never be alone
Waiting on the cobble stones
For something that I know will put it right

I feel I should be saying grace
Before that juice runs down my face
And I begin to feel alive again
Is it in the pastry or the meat?
Or when the gravy runs from underneath?
That miracle relief from all the pain

I’m saying goodbye once more
To the day after feeling
From a good night before
Yes I’m feeling better but it’s no surprise
’Cause there’s something in Rennison’s pies

Well all good things and all that stuff
Just never seems to be enough
And 1991 saw its demise
What one man couldn’t bear to see
Made him buy a batch to freeze
And two remain for all posterity

One day this gastronomic prize
May be dissected and analised
To learn the secret recipe again
There are a few on special days
Who get to see them on display
Recalling happy memories again

I’m saying goodbye once more
To the day after feeling
From a good night before
Yes I’m feeling better but it’s no surprise
’Cause there’s something in Rennison’s pies
