This Hasn't Been His Day

from Major 3rd by Chris Swinney

/

lyrics

Well he’s afraid of his own reflection
He’s afraid just to give it a try
If there’s a chance that it couldn’t be certain
He’s gonna let it pass by

Because the last thing he needs is another
Dream that blows up before it begins
Though he laughs when he tells you about it
The joke’s worn past thin

But he likes to think that someday
He’ll be handed on a plate
All the goods in store he’s worked so hard for
I hope it’s not too late

Though he knows that there has never been
A better time to cause a scene
He’ll step right back and say
This hasn’t been his day
And he waits around for firmer ground
Then tip-toes when he hears the sound
Of his heart beating faster than the rain
That falls into the fire again

Well he’s afraid of his own perception
Of what he can and he couldn’t do
So he’ll look for another direction
Just in case it falls through
